7 Random Things Learned While Packing

To all my faithful readers, I apologize that this week's post is late. I'm in the middle of packing to move to a town that is almost four times the size of where I live now and have been a little distracted, to say the least. I'm moving to take a job at a larger newspaper and am advancing my journalism career.

 

This is an entirely new experience for me, as I’ve never lived more than fifteen minutes from the home I grew up in. I’m nervous, but excited at the same time. I’m looking forward to seeing what God has in store for me!

Anyway, I took some time out of packing today to do a little bit of writing. The first thing I want to do is thank EM Castellan for sending me the One Lovely Blog Award! You rock girl!

As part of accepting this award, I’m supposed to share seven random things about myself, but since I did that for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, I’m going to share seven random things that were inspired in the process of packing:

1)   Hi. My name is Amanda Fanger, and I… am a notebook collector. It all started off rather innocent; just a new journal here or there, until buying new notebooks and journals became a destructive habit. Now, I cannot walk into a store without looking through their notebook section and seeing if there is one I want to take home. I’ve promised myself not to buy any more until at least a third of those I already own have been used, although this shall be a difficult because I know I will be tempted with new designs and styles that I’ve never seen before in this new town…

2)  Apparently, I collect picture frames. Yeah, that was a surprise to me because I didn’t know I had that many, nor do I know where they all came from. One thing’s for sure; I have a lot. Some are filled with family and pet photos, some with old artwork, but most of them are empty. Which, you know, makes total sense.

3)  Too many books? Psh, please! That’s one of life’s biggest myths. So, contrary to popular opinion, I do not have too many books. Just because people have mistaken my place for a library and I have my own catalog system in place does NOT mean I have too many books.

4)  Where have all the good (boxes) gone? Seriously! Why is it that as soon as you throw away the. perfect. box. you shortly find yourself in want of that very box for packing? Instead, I end up with a bunch of second-hand boxes that my stuff barely fits in. Along those lines…

5)   …There are one thousand and one uses for duct tape, but apparently not all duct tape is made equal. No, sir (or ma’am – please don’t take offense). Either that, or the duct tape I bought is allergic to my second-hand boxes because it refuses to stay stuck.

6)  If yesterday you put off for tomorrow what you should have done today, you’ll regret it. I’ve always thought of myself as a somewhat organized individual, although while packing, I’ve discovered that may be more of an illusion of my imagination. I’ve found so many unfinished projects that I’ve forgotten about that I’m surprised I’ve ever finished a project.

7)  Not everything in life can or will be “handled with care.” This whole move has been an emotional roller coaster for me. I dearly loved the job I had and the people I work with, but this advancement in my career feels right for me. It’s a scary change, but I’m looking forward to the challenges that will come.

So there you have it! Seven totally random things that have been rolling around in my head while I’ve been stuffing newspaper wrapped objects in second-hand cardboard boxes. Hope you enjoyed!
